YMN Task Management System
If you want to do more each day that you possibly can, here’s a tasks management system that may be helpful. It’s made up of three categories that each have a single rule.
Categories and their rules:
- Yes: There can only be up to three tasks in this category at a given time. To move more into this category, you have to finish one (or demote it back to “Maybe”).
- Maybe: Every new task lands in this category which is intentionally non-committal to recognize that you can’t do it all and avoid recency bias (after letting a task sit for a week, you will often find that it doesn’t seem as compelling or useful as it did when you first had the idea).
- No: After a time frame of your choosing (I like 3 months), tasks on the “Maybe” list move to “No” b/c they clearly aren’t a priority and you have already effectively said “No” to them. They aren’t deleted if they ever need to be resurrected, but they aren’t in the two primary categories you regularly look at (“Yes” and “Maybe”).
Hope this is helpful! These categories and rules can be instantiated in a number of different task management systems, so be creative!
